The Story Behind Carrie on Accessibility

Carrie on Accessibility is me using my experiences, my love of technology and my passion for accessibility to empower the blind and visually impaired community.

I was born with Aniridia Syndrome – a genetic and hereditary condition where the iris is underdeveloped. I grew up legally blind in a family experiencing multiple disabilities and today, I am raising my son, Joseph, who is also legally blind with Aniridia.

Living with Aniridia has taught me a lot about overcoming challenges. I’ve learned how important it is to be an advocate, for myself, for others, and for accessibility.

Resources for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Blindness or low vision can be a challenge. But there are so many resources, tools, communities, products, and services that can help us be more independent.

CoA is working on a collection of resources to help! There will organizations, companies, products, assistive technology, accessibility apps, Facebook groups, and so much more.

This effort is for the community by the community. If you know of any resource, if you’ve found something helpful to you or someone you know who is blind or visually impaired, it would be wonderful if you could contact CoA!
