Braille Books for Blind and Visually Impaired Children

The following resources are for children who are blind and visually impaired who reside in the United States. This list was provided by employees at Hadley.edu. If you would like to learn braille or have braille related questions, they are a great resource!

Seedlings Books for Children

Check out their Seedlings Book Angel Program in which children who live in the U.S. can receive four free braille books per year. You can find the Special Programs at Seedlings here.

They has offer over 1,300 low-cost children’s books in braille for purchase.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Children 5 or under who reside in the U.S. or its territories can receive 6 free print-braille books a year

National Federation of the Blind’s Braille Reading Pals Club

This club will send a plush reading pal and also one free print/braille book every year.

Braille Institute of America’s Special Collection Program

This program is for families in the United States and Canada offers free braille books and storybook kits throughout the year.

American Action Fund Free Books Program

This program offers children living in the U.S. a free braille book every month.

National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS)

There are libraries in every state, with a very extensive collection of braille books for children. The child must be registered before they can receive books.

National Braille Press

Children’s Braille Book Club features a different print/braille book each month for preschool to Grade 3. Free membership applications are sometimes available for the monthly subscription.

The National Braille press produces and sells print/braille books at same price as print edition. They also have many children and adult braille books in print and for download available for purchase.

Braille Bookstore

This bookstore sells a wide variety of braille books for readers of all ages. Check out the Read-Aloud books that are available for purchase.
